Les instruments du réseau :

Le réseau Géochimie Elémentaire regroupe des instruments dédiés à l’analyse élémentaire par :

– spectrométrie de masse couplée à un plasma inductif (ICP-MS) avec tous les couplages associés (Ablation Laser pour analyse in-situ, Chromatographie Ionique et Gazeuse pour analyse de spéciation, Génération d’Hydrures…)

– Chromatographies ioniques (CI), de petites molécules gazeuses ou organiques par des techniques séparatives comme la chromatographie phase gazeuse (CPG), la chromatographie phase liquide (HPLC) et leur couplage à la spectrométrie de masse (CPG/MS, HPLC/MS)

– spectrométries optiques (UV-visible, IR, Proche IR…) : ICP-AES, Absorption Atomique, Analyseur de Carbone, Mercure, Soufre….  

– Les salles blanches, instruments indispensables pour la préparation des échantillons en limitant le risque de contamination.

Il s’agit d’un réseau qui comprend des équipements de base pour nombre des laboratoires de recherche, avec pour la plupart un fonctionnement en routine pour les projets de recherche, ainsi qu’en recherche et développement sur les techniques elles-mêmes. De nombreuses prestations et expertises sont également réalisées par les plateformes mettant en œuvre ces équipements. Les domaines scientifiques abordés par les plateformes sont principalement la géologie, la sédimentologie, l’hydrogéologie, l’océanographie, l’hydrochimie des cours d’eau et des lacs ainsi que la biogéochimie. Les matrices analysées comprennent l’eau, les gaz, les roches, les sédiments et les végétaux aquatiques et terrestres. Des techniques d’extraction spécifiques des éléments recherchés au sein de chaque matrice et système analytiques sont développées au sein de chaque plateforme.

La distribution sur le territoire et le personnel affecté :

Les données produites :

Les données produites alimentent notamment les projets de recherche des laboratoires eux-mêmes, leurs collaborations de recherche respectives, ainsi que les observatoires nationaux (SNO, IR OZCAR, Réseau des zones ateliers, IR ILICO, …), via leurs bases de données. Le volume des données produites dans ce réseau s’avère très important du fait de la participation active aux services d’observation nationaux et internationaux de l’environnement.

Organisation et spécificités :

Les plateformes sont réparties de façon homo-gène sur le territoire et sont fortement connectées à d’autres instituts de recherche tels que l’IRD, l’IFREMER et le CEA . En effet, des personnels tech-niques permanents IRD, IFREMER et CEA sont pré-sents sur les plateformes : IRD (2 à Bondy), IFREMER (1 à Brest) et CEA (2 à St Quentin) et une forte inte-raction avec des chercheurs de ces instituts est éga-lement visible à Grenoble et Montpellier (IRD), St Quentin (CEA) et Brest (IFREMER).
Ce réseau accueille aussi un instrument national de l’INSU (le SARM), qui assure une production de données routines pour la communauté 100 % en service depuis des dizaines d’années. Son organisa-tion est pionnière dans la gestion des données avec comme objectif courant 2021 une association de méta-données utilisateurs pour initier l’archivage des données produites dans RéGEF.
Le réseau GE rassemble des plateformes très va-riées qui couvrent un périmètre scientifique très large. Il n’a pas encore connecté toutes les plate-formes dans son périmètre et continu leur agréga-tion. Il doit permettre à cette communauté de pour-suivre le développement de ces techniques analy-tiques ainsi que leur application au domaine environnemental au sens large.
Des liens forts avec les réseaux métiers existants tels que ceux liés à l’ANF ISOTRACE (isotopie et élé-mentaire), à RECAE (environnement) ainsi que l’AFSEP (techniques séparatives) sont et seront développés dans un avenir proche afin de dévelop-per/renforcer les aspects anima-tion/formation/développements. Des synergies seront également mises en œuvre avec le réseau TIMS/MC-ICP-MS dont certaines plateformes multi-instrumentées possèdent des instruments relevant du réseau GE.
Les budgets d’équipement des plateformes de ce réseau sont compris entre 200k€ et 1M€, avec une moyenne à 500k€.
